The Introduction
A local financial institution newly-formed Learning and Development Department Manager reached out for Instructional Designer and Corporate Training services to support their Human Resources client in the design and facilitation of the New Hire “Day One” On-boarding Program and introduction to company benefits. The Instructional Designer also provided “cradle to grave” consulting and project management for two additional departments: Compliance and Lending, the outcomes of which were the migration of the “Day One” New Hire Orientation and on-boarding from ILT to elearning for the Compliance VP AND the custom design of and e-learning solution that provided regulatory training to financial lenders.
The initial assignment was to provide Instructional Design and Corporate Training to the L&D Department in support of their Human Resources client. The Instructional Designer was vetted as a Trainer by week three and then assumed management of the bank-wide instructor-led Day One “New Hire Orientation” program. She created the master “Training Calendar” to coordinate and manage all trainings for the four Trainers. She met with business leaders, coordinated with HR to schedule New Hire invites from in and out of Orange County, updated the bank-wide Leader weekly Notification e-mail blast, PowerPoint presentation, created interactive scenarios and worked with a Training Coordinator to prepare and take down all trainings in the Corporate Training Room. Within eight weeks, the L&D team was informed of a 20-branch conversion which would require the on-boarding of an additional 200 employees which called on her to provide support of a large-onboarding event and increase the size of “New Hire” presentations to 30 until all of the 200 New Hires were onboarded; she also designed two instructor-led change management trainings aka “Branch Manager and Supervisor” training, and “Teller Training” which she facilitated. During the two-year assignments, the Instructional Designer also was also called on to provide “cradle to grave” custom eLearning consulting to the Lending Department on updated regulatory training for lenders AND “Day One” New Hire On-boarding instructor-led training migration to eLearning for the Compliance Department all of which was completed concurrently over a two year timeline and which garnered appreciation from the Compliance Department VP who sent out a bank-wide email blast “thumbs up” award commemorating the Instructional Designer’s remarkable stakeholder collaboration and delivery of services and solutions.
The ID encountered numerous logistic and political challenges while managing the programs and projects concurrently and during the 20-branch conversion which called on her leadership, program and project analysis, planning and management, her background and education and experience in Instructional Design and her technical expertise developing both instructor-led and eLearning solutions successfully.
The Instructional Designer created a master Training calendar to manage all of the ongoing learning and training events scheduled on a monthly basis. The HR On-boarding program was updated with interactive learning experiences in collaboration with multiple internal leaders. As part of the “New Hire” on-boarding of 200 new employees, the Instructional Designer designed two new instructor-led change Management training courses (i.e. Branch Manger and Supervisor AND Branch Banking Teller) and facilitated them at one of the local bank branches concurrently, during which time she was was also called on to design a custom eLearning solution for the Lending Department, after which she also migrated the Compliance Department’s On-boarding program to and eLearning solution. Despite concurrent program and project deadlines, all programs were successful in their undertaking, the clients more than satisfied with the solutions, and the overall assignment proved a ***** star win.
